Final Round (Rd 4) Results

The South Australian Motor Racing Championship’s Circuit Excel series concluded at the fourth and final round of the “Master of Mallala” race series (sponsored by Franks Towbars and Exhausts) at Mallala Motorsport Park on Saturday 12th November.

Poor track condition saw lap times well below those of the previous round for the entire field, but the top 5 consisted of the usual drivers from the previous rounds, with Asher Johnston again clean sweeping the round with pole and victory in all four races. Shaun Pannowitch and Danny Errigo swaped and shared the podium positions for the majority of the races, with Martyn Butler and Paul Falco the only other individual podium placers across the day.

At the conclusion of the day’s and season’s racing, it was Asher Johnston who was crowned 2016 champion, with a large points lead over runner-up team mate Shaun Pannowitch, Martyn Butler third with a narrow points lead over Danny Errigo (who only debuted at Round 2), and the consistent Paul Falco rounding out the top 5.

Full Round 4 results are available via Natsoft, and official and complete season standings will be published on our Championship Standings page when released by the Sporting Car Club of SA.

Master of Mallala Round 3 – Results

Round 3 of the Master of Mallala race series, sponsored by Goolwa Vehicle Sales, was contested over the weekend of Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st August at Mallala Motorsport Park.

A damp but drying track presented tricky conditions in Saturday morning qualifying for the Stillwell Hyundai Circuit Excel Cup, which saw current points leader Asher Johnston qualify on Pole Position with Scott Stephenson forming the front row ahead of Danny Errigo and Ash Bennett.

Thankfully conditions were ideal for the remainder of the event, which saw the Pannowitch Racing Team dominate the weekend with Asher Johnston winning all 5 races (including the inaugural 12 lap Ryan Pannowitch Memorial Trophy in Sunday’s Race 4), the round, and setting a new lap record of 1:27.0651, with team mate Shaun Pannowitch finishing runner-up with 2nd in all but Race 3. Danny Errigo had a strong weekend, claiming 2nd in Race 3 and taking 3rd place in all others for third overall, with Martyn Butler fourth and Ash Bennett fifth in the round points.

Full results for the Round are available on Natsoft, whilst overall points have been updated on our Championship Standings page.

Master of Mallala Round 2 – Results

The second round of the Stillwell Hyundai Circuit Excel Cup, sponsored by Stanvac Korean Auto Wreckers, was contested over the weekend of May 21st and 22nd at Mallala Motor Sport Park, as part of the CAMS State Motor Racing Championship, otherwise known as the “Master of Mallala 2016″ series.

2014 champion Asher Johnston continued finding more pace from the TAFE SA/Pannowitch Racing Team Excel, claiming pole position with a 1.27.48 lap time, and going on to win both opening races ahead of Shaun Pannowitch and the retiring Brodie Cook, who both shared a 2nd and 3rd place apiece in Races 1 and 2.

Whilst Saturday saw perfect racing weather, Sunday started with strong winds whipping up thick dust storms during Race 3, won by Brodie Cook ahead of Shaun Pannowitch and Danny Errigo, after Asher Johnston was turned around on the first lap, who then charged from the rear of field to finish 5th in just 8 laps.

Race 4 saw light rain settle the dust, the conditions not hampering Johnston who reclaimed victory ahead of Pannowitch and Cook, whilst slightly further back in the field, Scott Stephenson was forced to retire after being turned around and taking a heavy hit from Danny Maul. Both cars would be patched up and mechanically repaired for the 5th and final race, but Stephenson’s bad luck continued, suffering further heavy damage after colliding with a spinning Richard Hopkins on the opening lap. The carnage unfortunately worsened, when John McGarry rolled his vehicle on the following lap, bringing out the safety car for all but the final lap, which saw the top three positions mirror those of Race 4.

At the conclusion of racing, it was Asher Johnston awarded the round victory, ahead of team mate Shaun Pannowitch and the retiring Brodie Cook. Full results for qualifying and all races can be found on Natsoft, and preliminary season positions will be updated soon our Championship Standing page.

Master of Mallala Round 1 – Results

The first round of the Sporting Car Club of South Australia’s “Master of Mallala 2016″ SA Motor Racing Championship, featuring the Stillwell Hyundai Circuit Excel Cup, was contested on Saturday the 20th of February at Mallala raceway.

The opening round, sponsored by D&D Mechanical & 4WD, saw the debut of yet more new drivers to the category, with a record 25 Circuit Excel entries.

2014 Circuit Excel champion Asher Johnston dominated the day’s results, qualifying on pole position and winning all four races to claim the round win, ahead of Brodie Cook and Max Vidau, who shared the remaining podium positions in all four races. Consistent results in the top 5 saw Scott Stephenson take 4th in the round results, with 5th going to Martyn Butler. Defending 2015 champion Josh Hoare had a less than ideal start to the 2016 season, having had to retire from the opening race after a loose bonnet smashed his front windscreen.
